Welcome to St. Mary's Episcopal Church

"Therefore welcome one another as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God."  Romans 15:7

Welcome to St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Colonial Beach, VA.  Thank you for visiting our website.

St. Mary's is in transition.  We are spending this time in waiting, sometimes in disappointment that a promising candidate did not work out as we had hoped, or in uncertainty about the Lord’s will for us, but we are always growing.   The laity, unused to taking leadership roles now does so.   One of our trained parishioners leads confirmation classes.   We have a lay led Christian book club.   Our list of worship ministers has expanded.  The Vestry  leads the parish in collaboration both spiritually and temporally.

St. Mary’s has been in its own Advent:  a time of expectant preparation and waiting for our new rector.  During this time, our spirit has been revitalized, and the parish has been empowered to own the responsibility of St. Mary’s mission: To be a family of God's people called to love the Lord, serve others, and to be a beacon of hope in our community and the world.  We are ready to share our church with the person that the Lord is calling to St. Mary’s.

Currently, our Interim, The Rev. Thomas R. Hughes, Jr. presides at our two Sunday Eucharist worship services.  On average twenty-five people attend the 8:00 liturgy, and forty-two attend the 10:30 service.   Although the choir is small, they are large in dedication, enthusiasm, and talent. Congregants gather between services for bible study, story-telling and after the 10:30 service for coffee and fellowship.

We are a small church, doing large things, in a community where there is a great need.
